About Us

Atlas' History

Atlas Management was originally set up as the building arm of a property development company by Joe Miles in 1997. Early projects included the renovation of dilapidated properties for the letting market, and the conversion of Edwardian and Victorian buildings into flats. The company is named after an early conversion project of a Victorian shipping office, "The Atlas Chambers", into a shop and three flats. We are members of the Federation of Master Builders.

Atlas Chambers

From the outset Atlas always retained tight control of development projects. This meant doing the majority of the design work in house, as it was found that the Detailed Design and the preparation of Schedules of Work required for refurbishment projects is best done by people with site experience. Only when particular skills were required would work be outsourced to third parties, such as Planning Consultants, Architects and Engineers.

The project manager responsible for the design would then run the building project. The majority of site work would be done with our own foreman and crews. As with the design side, when specialist skills were required we would outsource work, for example sprinkler installation, noise testing and piling.

In 2005, due to demand from family and friends, Atlas started working directly for customers, as opposed to developers only. We have continued the same philosophy of taking the project all the way from concept to completion. This, coupled with our broad knowledge and network of consultants, enables all our projects to be taken on with confidence.

When working directly for customers, Atlas adopted a strategy of education throughout the design and build process, so you have the knowledge to make all the decisions about your project. This customer empowerment, coupled with short communication paths from the customer to the builders, and practical "buildable" designs results in far fewer problems on site, more cost certainty and faster completion times.

Alex

Alex

After completing his architectural studies at London Metropolitan University, Alex spent four years working at green architectural practices in and around North London developing his interests in sustainable design and building conservation. After specialising in high-end residential projects, he set up his own practice with private clients concerned with defining low-carbon solutions for urban family living in the 21st century.

Alex believes strongly in the client's close involvement in the design process. He believes that an architect's primary function is to present the client with options that fit within the brief parameters and allow informed decisions to drive proposals.

Alex is a creative and enthusiastic member of the Atlas Team. He looks forward to meeting the design challenges of clients and works closely with the other members throughout the project to ensure successful resolution.
